Dan Word Nominated to Serve as Vice President of the Inland Region of the California Community College Association for Occupational Education

Dan Word, Dean of Career Education and Human Development at Crafton Hills College has been nominated to serve as Vice President of the Inland Region of the California Community College Association for Occupational Education. This association is a champion for education and workforce success in the state, working to ensure that there is education available for everyone at any time. Word was hired at Crafton Hills College as a tenure-track faculty in Emergency Medical Services in 2001. As a faculty member, he had the opportunity to serve as Faculty Chair, Program Director, and has served in his current role since 2017.

Starfish Findings at CHC Show Retention Tool Increases Student Success and Completion Rates

The Crafton Hills College Starfish Impact Report findings for the 2019-2021 academic years have been published. Starfish is a program that helps to create an online student success environment, facilitating counseling and advising, tutoring, mentoring and other student services with the aim of improving student success and retention.

Spring Virtual Transfer Fair to be held April 6, 2022

In the Fall 2021 semester, Crafton Hills College successfully conducted a virtual transfer fair with 70 universities (in-state & out-of-state). Attending this event were 1,201 students from across the region.The success of the virtual fair prompted Riverside City College to conduct its own transfer fair following Crafton's model and became the second college to offer a virtual fair that term.

New DSPS Procedure at Crafton Communicates Testing Accommodations to Faculty

To facilitate communication between students who are eligible for testing accommodations and their instructors, DSPS is sending testing accommodations notification forms directly to instructors beginning in spring 2022.

Movie Discussion and Screening Between The World and Me

Crafton Hills College held a separate discussion and screening of the HBO special Between the World and Me as part of the ongoing Black History Month celebration and The One Book, One College reading initiative. This year's book, Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates, was adapted to a theater production and the HBO documentary.

Crafton Hills College Art and Digital Media Professors present their work at the Yucaipa Performing Arts Center Gallery

Visual Arts professor Renée Azenaro and Digital Media professor Iris Kern-Foster are showing their art in a two person show at the Yucaipa Performing Arts Center Gallery. Renée Azenaro's crochet metal sculptures, a small selection from her "Occlusions" installation, and Iris Kern-Fosters digital prints of the Somewhere series both address topics of space relationships from different angles.

Black Health and Wellness Focus of Black History Month Kickoff Event

Crafton Hills College kicked off Black History Month 2022 with a powerful opening event highlighting this year's national theme for Black History Month is "Black Health and Wellness." Participants watched a recorded rendition of"Lift Every Voice and Sing," a ballad widely known as the U.S. black national anthem and discussed its importance to the Black community and American society as a whole.

Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Association Established by Employees

Faculty and staff of Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College have joined forces to create an Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Association. Hate against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic.The API Association will raise awareness and work to discredit the belief that our college campuses are free from discrimination.

Art with Impact Collaboration Brings Movies For Mental Health to CHC

Crafton Hills College (CHC) in collaboration with Art with Impact held an informative virtual workshop and panel discussion about movies for mental health. The moderator showed the audience award-winning short films focused on mental health problems and the stigmas surrounding them. Participants were encouraged to follow mindfulness activities such as breathing exercises and guided meditation. The public chat discussion and a poll function provided a safe space for participants to voice what they were feeling throughout the workshop.

3rd Annual New Works Festival Playwright Competition

The Crafton Hills College theatre Department is seeking submissions for their 3rd Annual New Works Festival in both 10-minute and One-Act categories. With this year's theme, "Messages and Memories," playwrights are encouraged to write stories about dreams, passing along collective memories and experiences, or other associated topics.

Crafton Hills College Sunset Hike to Zanja

All students and employees are invited for a sunset hike to Zanja Peak on Wednesday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m.The group will meet on campus in parking lot C and caravan to the Old DumpTrail trailhead off Oak Glen Road.The 4.3-mile round-trip hike will have a 1400' elevation gain. Hikers are asked to bring water and a snack, wear comfortable tennis shoes or hiking shoes/boots, and bring a headlamp or flashlight as it will be getting dark on our way down. Zanja Peak is the highest point of the Crafton Hills, a subrange of the San Bernardino Mountains. The group will take in the sunset views before starting the descent.

Crafton Hills College Resumes In-Person Outreach

Crafton Hills College is excited to return to in-person outreach and recruitment services for prospective students. Our SOA3R outreach events begin on Monday, February 28. The Student Orientation, Application, Assessment, Advising and Registration (SOA3R) program provides local high school students with hands- on help to apply, register, and create an educational plan before they graduate.CHC team members are on campus at local high schools to work directly with students and help them with the matriculation process, so they are ready to start classes in the fall.

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, the Crafton Hills College Foundation will hold a 50th Anniversary Gala, the proceeds of which will fund support for CHC students. This casual event will be held inside and outside of the College's Finkelstein Performing Arts Center and feature a theatre production of "Through the Years," highlighting fun facts and historical information about the College.
