Art Enthusiast Accepted into MFA Program

As she started helping her two sons with school projects, she realized she wanted to pursue art in a more meaningful way, and started taking classes at Crafton Hills College.

Saturday Counseling Services Scheduled for June 3

Crafton Hills College will be offering assessment and advising services on Saturday, June 3 for people interested in registering for fall semester 2017. As an incentive to participate, those who complete the process on May 20 will be allowed to register for classes earlier than otherwise offered. As part of the 5-step process to register (1. Application, 2. Orientation, 3. Assessment, 4. Advisement, 5. Registration), assessment and advising are the only two that cannot be completed online. To make those steps more convenient for potential students, Crafton will provide assessment tests and counseling services on Saturday, May 20 beginning at 8 a.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Counseling Office at 909-389-3366. First, students must complete the college application online, found at www.craftonhills.edu, and then complete the online orientation using the student ID# received during the application process. This student ID# will also be needed when calling to reserve a spot for Saturday, May 20.


Workforce Readiness

New Certificates Target Job Skills And Employability

Crafton Hills College is offering two new skills certificates targeting job skills and employability. The Job Readiness Certificate and Workforce Literacy Certificate are a series of noncredit courses that provide training necessary to be competitive in the job market or to advance in a career, and are being offered as evening/weekend courses. The Job Readiness Certificate comprises four courses encompassing 72 hours: Blueprint for Workplace Success, Blueprint for Customer Service, 30 Ways to Shine as a New Employee, and Job Club. The Workforce Literacy Certificate comprises 6 courses encompassing 225 hours: Blueprint for Workplace Success, Blueprint for Customer Service, 30 Ways to Shine as a New Employee, Workplace Computing, Math Skills for the Workplace, and Reading & Writing for Workplace Communication or Workplace English as a Second Language. Classes start June 12th and finish August 9th, with morning and evening options available to accommodate all schedules. There are two free orientation/registration sessions scheduled: Thursday, June 8 at 5:30 p.m. or Friday, June 9 at 10 a.m. Interested participants should email Devon Werble at devonmw@gmail.com for more information, or complete the Participant Information Form.

Free Tax Preparation

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, sponsored by the Accounting program at Crafton Hills College and the Internal Revenue Service, provides free tax preparation services to individuals and families earning less than $54,000 a year who need assistance in preparing their own returns. VITA volunteers are CHC students who have completed a rigorous IRS-sponsored training and are certified by the IRS to provide basic income tax assistance to qualified individuals, including United States Veterans. Electronic filing is available free of charge.

There was no shiny red truck for a photo because of inclement weather, but it didn’t dampen the appreciation from Crafton Hills College when they received a donation of a fire truck from the City of Yucaipa/CAL FIRE on Monday, January 23 at the Yucaipa City Council meeting.
