Crafton Hills College (CHC) recognizes the Advanced Placement (AP) Program offered by the College Board. Students who have taken AP exams and earned a score of 3, 4, or 5 may be eligible to receive college credit.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Submit Official AP Scores
    AP scores must be sent directly to the Admissions & Records Office from the College Board for official evaluation.

  2. Meet with a Counselor
    Schedule an appointment with the Counseling Department to review how AP credit may apply to your academic and transfer goals.
    If appropriate, your counselor will submit a request to have AP credit posted to your Crafton Hills College transcript.

Crafton Hills College (CHC) recognizes the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) as a means for students to earn college credit for prior knowledge.

  • Credit is awarded on a Pass/No Pass basis only — letter grades are not assigned.
  • Some CLEP exams may be under review and not eligible for credit at this time. Please check with a counselor for the most current information.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Submit Official CLEP Scores
    CLEP scores must be sent directly to the Admissions & Records Office from the College Board for official evaluation.

  2. Meet with a Counselor
    Schedule an appointment with the Counseling Department to determine how CLEP credit may apply toward your educational goals.
    If appropriate, your counselor will submit a request for CLEP credit to be posted to your CHC transcript.

Students who believe they have already mastered the content of a course offered at Crafton Hills College may request to earn Credit by Examination.

Credit is granted only for approved courses and requires instructor and department approval. Students must demonstrate sufficient knowledge or experience in the subject to qualify.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible, students must meet one of the following:

  • Not currently enrolled in the course for which they are requesting Credit by Examination.
  • Be currently enrolled in at least 6 units during the term in which the exam is requested,
    OR
  • Have previously completed at least 6 units within the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD).
    In addition, students must be in good standing with the college.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Download the Request Form

  2. Verify Eligibility with Admissions & Records
    Bring the completed form to the Admissions & Records Office. Staff will verify that you are currently enrolled and meet the unit requirement (6 or more units completed or in progress). A&R must sign off before proceeding.

  3. Meet with the Instructor
    After A&R has signed the form, take it to the faculty member for the course. You must provide evidence of your knowledge or experience in the subject. If the instructor agrees, they will arrange for you to complete the examination.

  4. Faculty Submits the Completed Form
    Once the exam is completed, the instructor must complete the form and submit it directly to the Admissions & Records Office for processing and posting of the grade.
    Forms submitted by students will not be accepted.

Students may earn college credit toward a degree or certificate by presenting current, verifiable industry certifications or licensures that demonstrate mastery of course content.

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) based on industry-recognized credentials is awarded as recommended by the appropriate department chair or faculty designee.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Meet with a Counselor (Recommended)
    Schedule an appointment with the Counseling Department to discuss how your industry certification or licensure may apply toward your academic or career goals. If appropriate, the counselor will guide you through the following steps.

  2. Submit Request and Required Documents
    Submit your current industry certification or licensure, along with a completed CPL Petition form, to the Admissions & Records Office.

As part of the process, faculty from the appropriate discipline will review and determine whether credit should be awarded.
No additional action is needed from the student once the documentation has been submitted.

Crafton Hills College (CHC) recognizes the International Baccalaureate (IB) program as a way for students to earn college credit for prior learning.

Students who have completed IB examinations with qualifying scores may be eligible to receive credit, depending on the subject and score received.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Submit Official IB Scores
    Official IB scores must be sent directly to the Admissions & Records Office for official evaluation.

  2. Meet with a Counselor
    Schedule an appointment with the Counseling Department to review how IB credit may apply to your academic and transfer goals.
    If appropriate, your counselor will submit a request for IB credit to be posted to your CHC transcript.

If you are an active-duty service member or veteran, you may be eligible to receive college credit for military training, service schools, or occupational specialties that align with college-level coursework.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Meet with the Veterans Counselor
    Contact the CHC Veterans Resource Center to schedule an appointment with the veterans counselor. They will review your academic goals and guide you through the credit evaluation process.

  2. Submit Official Military Transcripts
    Official military transcripts must be sent directly to the Admissions & Records Office at Crafton Hills College.

    • Active-duty service members should submit a Joint Services Transcript (JST). You can request your JST through the JST website.

    • Air Force service members should submit an official transcript from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). Since CCAF is a regionally accredited institution, applicable coursework may be evaluated as traditional transfer credit rather than credit for prior learning.

  3. Submit a CPL Petition Form
    Once your official transcript is on file, submit a completed CPL Petition form to the Admissions & Records Office to initiate the review process.

    Faculty from the appropriate discipline will evaluate eligible training or coursework based on American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations and program applicability.

Students may earn college credit by submitting a portfolio that demonstrates mastery of course content through prior learning, experience, or noncredit instruction.

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) based on a student-created portfolio is awarded as recommended by the appropriate department chair or faculty designee.

How to Request Credit:

  1. Meet with a Counselor (Recommended)
    Schedule an appointment with the Counseling Department to discuss whether a portfolio assessment is appropriate for your academic and career goals. The counselor will guide you through the process and the next steps.

  2. Submit Request and Required Documents
    If portfolio assessment is appropriate, submit your completed portfolio along with a CPL Petition form to the Admissions & Records Office.

As part of the process, faculty from the appropriate discipline will review and determine whether credit should be awarded.
No additional action is needed from the student once the documentation has been submitted.
