Removing Barriers – First Responder Endowment

Goal $12 Million Permanent Endowment to provide out-of-pocket expenses to train
350 First Responders every year in perpetuity ($480,000 per year*)

Fire Academy/Paramedic/EMTs

(First Responders)
The Fire Academy and Emergency Medical Services programs present academic, physical, and financial challenges for students. The out-of-pocket expenses for students in these programs have increased significantly over the past few years.

The CHC Fire Academy graduates 60 firefighters per year who are job ready. These graduates serve 29 southern California municipalities, putting their lives on the line every day. The out-of-pocket expenses are $3,000 per cadet. Financial assistance provided will cover certifications, uniforms, and equipment that allows cadets to focus on the discipline, teamwork, and skills necessary to become a firefighter while removing barriers.

The hands-on career training program for paramedics at Crafton Hills College is well known for connecting graduates to jobs. The college has been operating two cohorts of paramedic students annually and due to high demand, added a third cohort in the summer of 2022. The paramedic program has out-of-pocket expenses for students of over $1,900.

Included in these costs are exams and licensing fees that need to be paid at the end of an arduous program when most of the students have expended everything they have just to get through. Some graduates fail to sit for the state and national exams because they cannot afford to pay the fees.

The EMT program prepares students for entry-level employment as an Emergency Medical Technician and is a
prerequisite to both the Fire Academy and the Paramedic Program. Out of pocket expenses are around $600 per student.

Students training to become EMTs, Paramedics and Firefighters at Crafton Hills College need financial assistance. Your support will allow us to provide diverse and well-trained qualified first responders who are available to meet the needs of our community and the workforce.
