SBCCD Chancellor Bruce R. Baron Announces Retirement

Bruce R. Baron, who has served as chancellor of San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) since 2011, has announced that he will retire. Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Jose Torres will be stepping into the role of interim chancellor while the board begins its national search for a successor.

Crafton Hills College Looking for Outstanding Alumni

Nominations for the 2020 Outstanding Alumni Award from Crafton Hills College are being accepted through November 25. This prestigious award recognizes and honors the exceptional individuals whose attendance at Crafton helped them achieve their educational and professional goals, enabling great service to their communities. Each year, the Crafton Hills College Foundation recognizes a former student who exemplifies the dynamic and positive qualities the Crafton experience strives to produce. The Crafton Hills College Foundation Gala Committee reviews nominations and makes a final selection. Nominees are judged on their accomplishments in their chosen fields and for their community service. The selected recipient is presented with the award as an honored guest at the Annual Foundation Gala, Dinner and Auction each spring.

Crafton Hills College Foundation Unveils Legacy Society Wall

On Friday, October 11, 2019, a ceremony honored individuals who have made substantial gifts to support the programs and students at Crafton Hills College. Michelle Riggs, Director of Institutional Advancement, explained that "this Legacy Wall in the Crafton Center provides recognition of individuals who have given cumulative gifts, estate-planned gifts or irrevocable life-income gifts of $10,000 or more to the Crafton Hills College Foundation." The CHC Foundation provides financial support to assist struggling Crafton students in reaching their educational goals and enhances the programs and services available at the college.

Sociology and Anthropology Students visit LA

Cheryl DiBartlo and Julie McKee took a group of 48 students and their friends from CHC Sociology and Anthropology classes on a journey to learn in a setting away from their normal classroom environment. On Saturday, October 5, the group rode the train to LA where they visited Olivera Street, went to the Japanese American Museum in Little Tokyo, visited a calligraphy exhibit, had some free time to shop and wander around, and some even went to China Town. Students learned about the Japanese experience: pre-war, the internment camps and post war when many Japanese did not return to west coast but settled in the Midwest.

Crafton Hills College anthropology major studies Jalisco Mexico culture and people

Mirsha Ocampo was browsing Instagram one day when he came across an ad calling for students of Mexican decent to spend the summer exploring their roots. Sponsored by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad and in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate of Sacramento, the trip's itinerary called for participating students to spend five weeks soaking up Mexico's culture through volunteer work and interactions with its people.

Fifteen Paramedics Graduate From Crafton Hills College

Yucaipa, CA. A ceremony was held Friday, August 9, 2019 to celebrate Crafton Hills College Paramedic Class #91. The 15 graduates learned to provide the highest level of pre-hospital care during an intense 10-month program. Fire Chief for the City of Yucaipa, Grant Malinowski offered advice and reminisced about his experience as an alumnus of the Crafton Paramedic Program 17 years ago. "An education is only as good as the faculty instructing it, and you have the best," Malinowski said. "If you look around at the leaders in our profession, odds are that Crafton Hills College is a part of their background."

A Really Good Deal Just Got Even Better for Local College Freshmen

The San Bernardino Community College District is offering a "Free Promise Program" for new high school graduates who are starting college this fall at Crafton Hills College or San Bernardino Valley College. The program provides funding for full-time college students to earn an associate degree or get a career training certificate. Students are guaranteed two years of free tuition, free textbooks, free access to a laptop, cash for college expenses, priority registration, student support, and opportunities for paid work experience.
