Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa is accepting applications for its spring 2016 Fire Academy, which begins with a cadet orientation on January 19, 2016.

Community Colleges Expand Access to High School Students

Assembly Bill 288 will create partnerships between high schools and community colleges to allow a broader range of students to take college-level courses at their high schools or on college campuses - what is known as concurrent or dual enrollment. Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill in October.

Fire Academy Reaccredited for 5 Years

The Statewide Training and Education Advisory Committee and the State Board of Fire Services recommended continued recognition of the CHC Fire Academy within the California Fire Services Training and Education System. This reaccreditation by the California State Fire Marshal and the State Board of Fire Service is good for five years.

SBCCD Selecting Interim Trustee: Applications Due 10/30

The San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) has announced the process and timeline for appointing an interim trustee to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. Kathleen "Katy" Henry, who represented Area 7 of the SBCCD service area. Dr. Henry's term expired at the end of November, 2016, so the interim will serve until the expiration of that term and may stand for election to the position at that point if interested.

Public Invited to View Aircraft Fire Exercises

The San Bernardino Regional Emergency Training Center (SBRETC), which trains firefighters for the unique challenges that come with being stationed on an airport and handling aircraft fires and emergencies, will be holding three evening training sessions in November and the public is invited to attend and watch as firefighters put out the live fire exercises.

As part of a new branding initiative, Crafton Hills College hosted a brand positioning workshop on April 3, 2015. Representative from students, alumni, community members, faculty, staff, Foundation and K-12 participated in the workshop to help define and shape Crafton's brand.

Kaiser Permanente is in the business of saving lives. So when they awarded $10,000 to Crafton Hills College's "Preparing First Responders Program", they did so as an investment into the education and training of our community's future First Responders who keep our citizens healthy, safe and secure.

President Response to Graphic Novels Complaint

Crafton Hills College recently received a complaint from a student about the content of a graphic novels class. In our concern for the student and wishing to address the complaints, we initially agreed to include a disclaimer on the syllabus. This was a joint decision made by the faculty member and administration with no mandate from administration.

With a long list of accomplishments and campus engagement, Katharine "Rose" Guzenski was awarded the President's Award on Friday, May 15 at Scholars Convocation. The President's Award requires a nomination from CHC faculty or staff and then selection by the President, Dr. Cheryl Marshall.

CHC 2015 Distinguished Alumnus to be Recognized at Annual Gala

Bach to Beatles to Bono; Pavarotti to Presley to Paisley; Sinatra to Streisand to Swift... Students Rock! Tour is the theme for the annual Crafton Hills College (CHC) Foundation Gala scheduled for Saturday, March 28th. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino. Attendees are encouraged to represent their favorite band or artist with t-shirts or costumes.

Crafton Hills Withdraws its Approved B.A. Program

Crafton Hills College is withdrawing its participation in the baccalaureate degree pilot program recently authorized by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. "In light of our recent warning status with ACCJC, we are compelled to withdraw our Emergency Services & Allied Health Systems degree," says Dr. Cheryl Marshall, president.

CHC Placed on "Warning" Status by Accrediting Commission

San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) and Crafton Hills College (CHC) have both received the results of their multi-year Accreditation site visit and reporting cycle from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). Both schools have been placed on "warning" status and must submit follow-up reports addressing the areas of concern by March 15, 2016. Accrediting Team visits will follow the filing of the follow-up reports.

San Manuel Grant Helps CHC Students

Crafton Hills College (CHC) is already seeing results from the grant it received from San Manuel Band of Mission Indians in August 2014. "Without the opportunity to work on campus, I would be working dead end jobs, paycheck to paycheck," said Destinique Brown. "Because of my job as a student assistant, I imagine not only a career that provides a good living, but one that impacts the lives of others."
