Student Conduct

What is Student Conduct?

Crafton Hills College is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment where all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed.

As members of the Crafton Hills College community, students are expected to follow the Standards of Student Conduct established by the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD). These standards outline expectations for student behavior and help protect the rights, safety, and well-being of students, employees, and the College community.

The Student Conduct Office addresses reported violations of the Standards of Student Conduct and provides students with due process throughout the student conduct process.

Our goal is not only to address misconduct, but also to help students understand expectations, make informed decisions, take responsibility when appropriate, and successfully continue their educational journey.

What Types of Behavior May Be Reported?

Student conduct concerns may include, but are not limited to:

  • Disruptive behavior in the classroom or other College setting
  • Threatening, intimidating, or bullying behavior
  • Physical assault or attempted physical assault
  • Harassment that is not addressed through the Title IX process
  • Theft or attempted theft
  • Damage to College or personal property
  • Alcohol or drug-related violations
  • Unauthorized use of College property or facilities
  • Failure to comply with the directions of a College official acting within the scope of their duties
  • Providing false information or misrepresentation
  • Violation of College or District policies
  • Academic misconduct, including cheating or plagiarism
  • Conduct that interferes with teaching, learning, College operations, or the rights of others
  • Failure to comply with previously assigned student conduct sanctions

Not every disagreement, classroom concern, or uncomfortable interaction is necessarily a violation of the Standards of Student Conduct. Reports are reviewed to determine the appropriate College response.

How to Report a Student Conduct Incident

Students, faculty, staff, and members of the College community may report behavior that may violate the Standards of Student Conduct.

When submitting a report, please provide as much factual information as possible, including:

  • The name of the student(s) involved, if known;
  • The date, time, and location of the incident;
  • A description of what occurred;
  • Names of witnesses, if applicable; and
  • Relevant supporting documentation, such as emails, photographs, screenshots, or other records.

How to Submit a Student Conduct Incident

If you are unsure whether a situation should be reported as Student Conduct, Academic Integrity, a Student of Concern, or Title IX/Sexual Misconduct, you may contact the Student Conduct Office for guidance and/or review the Student Conduct Page for additional information.

What Happens After a Student Conduct Report Is Submitted?

When a student conduct report is received, the Student Conduct Office reviews the information to determine the appropriate next steps.

Depending on the circumstances, the Student Conduct Office may:

  • Review the report and supporting documentation
  • Gather additional information
  • Contact the reporting party or other individuals with relevant information
  • Notify the student of the alleged conduct violation(s)
  • Schedule a meeting with the student
  • Provide the student an opportunity to respond and share relevant information
  • Determine whether the Standards of Student Conduct were violated; and
  • When appropriate, assign sanctions or educational requirements consistent with District procedures.

Receiving a notice from the Student Conduct Office does not mean that a student has automatically been found responsible for a violation. Students are provided an opportunity to participate in the process and respond to the allegations before a determination is made.

Your Rights During the Student Conduct Process

Students participating in the conduct process are entitled to due process consistent with SBCCD policies and administrative procedures.

This includes receiving notice of the alleged violation(s), having an opportunity to respond to the allegations, presenting relevant information for consideration, receiving notification of the outcome, and exercising applicable appeal rights.

Students are encouraged to read all communications from the Student Conduct Office carefully and respond by the deadlines identified in their notice.

Possible Student Conduct Outcomes

When a student is found responsible for violating the Standards of Student Conduct, the appropriate response depends on the circumstances of the incident.

Possible sanctions or educational requirements may include:

  • Written warning or reprimand
  • Educational or reflective assignments
  • Community service
  • Restitution
  • No-contact directives
  • Restrictions from certain College facilities, activities, or events
  • Disciplinary probation
  • Administrative withdrawal from a course
  • Suspension
  • Recommendation for expulsion
  • Other appropriate educational or administrative actions

Student conduct decisions are made on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable District policies and procedures.

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity is an important part of the learning environment at Crafton Hills College. Students are expected to demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and integrity in their academic work.
Academic misconduct may include cheating, plagiarism, unauthorized use of sources or materials, or other behavior that violates academic integrity standards.

How Should Faculty Report Academic Misconduct?

When a faculty member suspects academic misconduct, the faculty member should address the academic matter with the student in accordance with applicable College and District policies and procedures.

Faculty should also submit a Student Conduct Incident Report when the behavior may constitute a violation of the Standards of Student Conduct. The report allows the Student Conduct Office to document the incident, review the matter, identify repeated or related conduct concerns, and determine whether additional action through the student conduct process is appropriate.

When submitting a report, faculty should include:

  • A clear, factual description of the alleged academic misconduct;
  • The date the incident occurred or was discovered;
  • The course name and section;
  • Any communication with the student regarding the incident;
  • The academic action taken, if applicable; and
  • Relevant supporting documentation, such as the assignment, exam, Turnitin or originality report, screenshots, emails, or other evidence.

Important: Submitting a Student Conduct Incident Report does not replace the faculty member's responsibility for addressing the academic consequences within the course. The Student Conduct Office addresses potential violations of the Standards of Student
