David Avila is not a “high profile kind of guy.” So when he was named Crafton Hills College’s 2019 Outstanding Alumni, the longtime volunteer asked himself, “Why me?”

The family Ryan Bartlett has built at Crafton Hills College is what has the longtime English professor coming back for more. The smaller class sizes and welcoming environment on campus allows faculty, staff and students to establish meaningful relationships, he explains.

On Friday, March 8, California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley will join the San Bernardino Community College District and more than 100 high school students to launch SBCCD’s two-year free college promise, offered at Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College.
