Participants at Hello Major/Hello Career Fair

Crafton Hills College (CHC) students had the opportunity to explore their academic interests and connect with potential employers during the annual Hello Major/Hello Career Fair, held Thursday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hosted by the college’s Career Center, the event welcomed more than 300 attendees and brought together faculty, local employers, and students for learning, networking, and career exploration.

The event had several goals: to help students learn more about the academic majors and programs offered at CHC, to introduce them to potential career opportunities, and to encourage students who haven’t yet chosen a major to explore their options. By connecting with faculty and employers, students could gain a better understanding of different majors, career pathways, and the opportunities available to help them make informed decisions about their educational and professional futures.

Faculty and student leads from various academic departments and representatives from local employers hosted informational tables where students could ask questions, explore different fields of study, and learn about career paths. Employers shared information about their companies and industries, along with potential internships and part-time, full-time, and volunteer opportunities. These conversations helped students see how their academic interests could connect to real-world careers.

In addition to connecting with faculty and employers, students had the opportunity to speak directly with Career Center staff for guidance and support as they considered their educational and professional goals. CHC Regional Job Developer Pedro Chabolla was able to direct students to potential employers based on their needs and interests.

A special highlight of the event was a food truck offering students a free meal, made possible through the support of the CHC Student Senate and Career Center.

Although the weather was blustery, with periods of heavy rain, the event continued indoors. Thanks to everyone's flexibility and willingness to pivot, the change in venue did not dampen the enthusiasm. Attendees were also greeted by campus mascot Ryker, adding a welcoming touch to the day's activities.

Students shared with Career Center Coordinator Trinette Barrie that they learned more about academic majors than they had anticipated and gained an understanding of the types of jobs and opportunities available through different companies.

The Hello Major/Hello Career Fair provided a valuable opportunity for students to make connections, ask questions, and begin envisioning their futures. It also gave local companies an opportunity to meet Crafton Hills College students, learn about their interests and skills, and share ways to become involved in developing the local workforce.
