CHC Kickball Team at CHC Olympics

On October 9, Crafton Hills College (CHC) hosted the third annual San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) Olympics. This event brings together employees from CHC, San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), and the SBCCD office to compete in a variety of athletic games meant to foster community and friendly competition.

This year, CHC hosted the first set of games and kicked off the festivities with free tee shirts, rally towels, hats, and delicious tacos! People from CHC, SBVC, and the District office poured into the Kinesiology, Health Education, and Aquatics Complex to cheer on their team.

After milling about, socializing, and enjoying the food, it was time for the games to begin! SBVC and CHC mascots hyped up the crowd, while each team took to the field to start the first event: Round Robin Kickball. But this version of kickball came with a twist – competitors had to play while wearing inflatable costumes. This resulted in both fierce competition along with vigorous laughter, as players fumbled over the inflatable dinosaur, unicorn, or chicken attached to their torsos.

Following kickball, everyone flocked to the Aquatics Center for three rambunctious rounds of Raft Racing. Teams of two rowed each inflated raft as the District office, CHC, and SBVC competed in a three-lane raft race in CHC’s Olympic-sized swimming pool. Attendees cheered from the stands as teams splash-rowed with all their might, trying to get from one end of the pool to the other. The efforts of some teams led to spinning in circles, while other teams rowed to victories.

At the end of the day’s events, medals were awarded as follows:

Round Robin Kickball:

  • Gold Medals: CHC and SBVC
  • Silver Medal: District Office

Raft Racing:

  • Gold Medal: District Office
  • Silver Medal: CHC
  • Bronze Medal: SBVC

The Olympic excitement continues October 23, at SBVC, where athletes will take part in more exciting events, including a 9-Legged Race and Blindfolded Bowling.
