Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Crafton Hills College marked Cinco de Mayo with a campus event that brought together the Crafton community members for an afternoon of personal storytelling, historical reflection, and student engagement.

The program included remarks from former Crafton student and Brown Berets member Lucille Yglesias, who shared her personal journey, community involvement, and experiences participating in historic Chicano movement events. Featured guest speaker Dr. David Sanchez, a founding member of the Brown Berets, spoke about the origins of Cinco de Mayo, civil rights activism, and the role of community organizing, offering perspectives on both past movements and present-day social issues.

In addition to the speakers, attendees had the opportunity to support the ESLN Conversation Club fundraiser and connect with peers in a welcoming campus setting. The event created a platform for dialogue, reflection, and a range of perspectives on history, identity, and civic engagement.
