VRC Grad Celebration

On April 30, the Crafton Hills College Veterans Resource Center (VRC) celebrated 28 students—each either a veteran or a dependent of a veteran—at the 2026 recognition ceremony. Centered around the theme, “Completion is not the end — it’s the launch,” the event honored not only academic achievement, but the resilience, discipline, and growth that define the veteran student experience.

Family members, friends, faculty, and staff gathered to recognize graduates whose paths to this moment were anything but traditional. For many, the journey included transitioning from military service to academic life—or continuing a family legacy of service.

Student speaker and Student Veteran Association President Joshua Macias reflected on that journey.

“It is an honor to stand before you and acknowledge the dedication it took to get here,” Macias said. “What you have accomplished comes from hard work and sheer discipline—the willpower to keep moving forward when times of struggle felt suffocating.”

He encouraged graduates to reflect on their growth, emphasizing pride not just in the outcome, but in the process—every challenge, setback, and moment of perseverance.

“You took what you learned in one environment and applied it to another, and that is not something everyone can do,” he said. “Your discomfort has become a part of your character… it has shaped the way you think, the way you work, and the way you approach challenges.”

Macias also highlighted the importance of the Veterans Resource Center, noting the guidance and community it provides to help students stay focused and navigate challenges.

“That support matters… it reminds you that you are not doing this alone.”

The ceremony celebrated both individual achievement and the strength of a community committed to serving those who have served.

With red, white, and blue cords, veterans sashes, and challenge coins in hand, the Class of 2026 veteran and military-connected graduates now look ahead to commencement on May 15—and to the next chapter beyond, ready to launch.
