2026 Fire & EMS Competition for High School Students

On April 22, Crafton Hills College welcomed high school students from across the region for the 2026 Fire & EMS Competition, a hands-on event highlighting the skills, teamwork, and commitment required for careers in public safety. Held in partnership with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, the event brought together aspiring firefighters and emergency medical responders for a day of real-world challenges.

A total of 59 students participated, rotating through a series of testing and practical scenarios designed to simulate emergency situations. These exercises allowed students to demonstrate their training in fire suppression, rescue operations, patient care, and incident command. The competition offered participants the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while gaining valuable insight into fire service and EMS careers.

Twelve teams representing nine local high schools competed, including Citrus Valley High School, Fontana High School, Pacific High School, Public Safety Academy High School, Redlands High School, Serrano High School, San Andreas High School, Sultana High School, and Yucaipa High School.

By hosting the event, Crafton Hills College reinforces its commitment to workforce development and public safety education, providing students with early exposure to essential career pathways. The Fire & EMS Competition not only strengthens technical abilities but also emphasizes leadership, communication, and teamwork—key qualities for future first responders.

Educators, public safety professionals, and community members attended to support and recognize the students as they take important steps toward careers in service.
