Crafton Multilingual Program Presents at Puente Linguistic Justice Conference
Publish Date: March 17, 2026

The Multilingual Program represented Crafton Hills College at the Puente Linguistic Justice Conference (Puente LJ Con) on March 17, 2026. Now in its sixth year, Puente’s LJ Con brought educators together for a day of learning, reflection, and conversation grounded in linguistic justice. The conference creates space for educators to critically engage questions of language, culture, and liberatory practice. This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Mike Mena, whose work focuses on the ideological perceptions of race and language in the context of American education.
Members of the Multilingual ZTC Faculty Learning Community presented on the opportunities and tensions of building linguistically just curricula for ESL/multilingual students, specifically how to support students’ development of English within institutions that privilege standardized forms, while also raising awareness of the racialized nature of language.
Panel Presentation: “Teaching English Within and Against Gatekeeping Systems”
Presenters: Chloe de los Reyes, Andrew Guevara, and Xochilt Trujillo Flores
