On May 21st, the EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs/Guardian Scholars department recognized the students in their programs who were graduating with certificates or degrees or, transferring to a four-year university. The program celebrated the 71 graduates, 15 with honors, and 5 with highest honors.

The Zoom virtual event began with Hawaiian music and island backdrop as Crafton President Dr. Kevin Horan congratulated the students: “This year has thrown an incredible extraordinary challenge in front of you, and each of you have risen to the challenge and met it head on.”

Each student’s name was announced with an accompanying slide that included his or her name, major, and transfer university, while students and family cheered, smiled, and waved as their screen was shared. Counselors and the Vice President of Student Services Dr. Delmy Spencer each took a moment to offer their words of encouragement and congratulatory messages.

“Each of the students we have honored has demonstrated great fortitude and inner strength in perusing their dreams,” said program director Dr. Rejoice Chavira. Chavira gave an air hug to students on their success and ended the ceremony with a prerecorded video of staff donned in masks dancing to the song Happy, by Pharrell, while sending a final farewell to the graduates.
