Crafton Hills College celebrated Black History Month throughout February with poetry readings, jazz history, a student art show, a fashion show, food, music, and ceremonies.
At the opening ceremony, Kashaunda Harris stressed the importance of celebrating Black History Month to recognize “the accolades and accomplishments of black historians, educators, inventors, activists, politicians, entertainers, and athletes and the impact they’ve made and continue to make.
Dan Word encouraged the campus to continue to keep the dialogue open during Black History Month, imparting that these celebrations are important, “if it does nothing more than creating the space and opportunity for those conversations to happen.” Word continued, “this month is about finding common spaces and differences.”
