Honoring Our 2025 Mike Orland Scholarship Recipient
Publish Date: Oct. 30, 2025

On October 30, the CHC Foundation proudly presented the Captain Mike Orland Scholarship to Cristian Cubillos, a cadet in Academy #113. This scholarship, created as a legacy gift from Captain Michael Orland, reflects his belief that every cadet should have the opportunity to pursue their calling.
During the ceremony, Captain Orland’s mother, Margie Orland, presented the award and shared with the class how meaningful it is to read each cadet’s story. She also reflected on Michael’s dream that one day every student would receive full support throughout their training. This legacy scholarship helps bring that vision closer to reality by supporting one cadet each semester.
This year’s recipient, Cadet Cubillos, has demonstrated exceptional resilience and dedication. Despite personal challenges outside the classroom, he has continued to excel at the Crafton Hills Fire Academy—facing fears head-on, serving as a squad team captain, and showing remarkable strength and determination.
A Highland native and graduate of Indian Springs High School, Cristian has earned his EMT certification, excelled in Anatomy & Physiology, and plans to enter Crafton’s paramedic program this spring after completing the Fire Academy. His long-term goal is to become a Firefighter Paramedic.
In his thank-you letter, he wrote, “This scholarship not only supports my education financially, but encourages me to continue striving toward my goals with dedication and confidence.”
Congratulations, Cristian—your perseverance and passion truly embody the spirit of this scholarship.
Thank you to the Orland family for honoring Michael’s memory and uplifting the next generation of firefighters.
