Elect Her Workshop: CHC and University of Redlands Women Win

Thanks to the generosity of the American Association of University Women and Running Start, 50 Crafton Hills College and University of Redlands female students attended a one-day workshop on Friday, February 20 to encourage and train them to run for student government and future political office.

The Elect Her workshop is designed to address the need to increase the number of women running for office and to diminish the longstanding gender gap in political leadership. The agenda included step by step exercises on building a campaign team, and running for student office.

During lunch, Supervisor Janice Rutherford shared her story on being elected to city council at 32 and working her way to county supervisor.

CHC student Esmeralda Vasquez and alumna Kaylee Hrisoulas offered their advice on taking the leap into politics, "Be loud, be proud, be fearless."

Dr. Marshall was the wrap-up speaker, giving advice on networking. "You never know when someone you meet while networking will turn into a job lead, or a lifetime friend."
