EMS 020
Emergency Medical Technician-I/EMT-Basic
Instruction in all facets of U.S. Department of Transportation T22CCR required basic life support measures, CPR, and the use of appropriate emergency medical equipment and supplies. Stresses hands-on emergency medical skills proficiency needed to enhance the EMS Delivery Systems in the field. Includes state mandated SIDS Education and introduction to pharmacology for the EMT-I.

    Preventing Disease Transmission for the Emergency Medical Technician
    Instruction in disease transmission, infection control practices, including occupational exposure management and legal concerns. Designed for Emergency Medical Services, hospital and public safety personnel. Graded on a Pass or No Pass basis only.

      Basic Life Support for Emergency Medical Technician-I/EMT-Basic
      Knowledge and skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for victims of all ages including ventilation devices, automated external defibrillator, and foreign-body airway obstruction. This course meets the 2000 Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care at the healthcare provider level. Offered for Credit or No Credit only.

      Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness for Emergency Medical Technician-I/EMT-Basic
      Instruction in the recognition of hazardous materials events, action responses to the events and hazard assessment techniques. Satisfies the requirements for all healthcare workers at the hazardous materials awareness level. Offered for Credit or No Credit only.

      Customer Service and Professionalism for the Emergency Services Worker
      Preparation of the Emergency Medical Services student in customer service, communication skills, hiring processes and career awareness within the emergency services field.

      Introduction - Patient Care Documentation
      Introduction to out-of-hospital patient care documentation and the use of electronic health care records.

        Electronic Patient Care Reporting - Field
        Students will learning how to document critical patient information through the use of electronic patient care reporting during the clinical and field participation in the EMT program

          Pharmacology for the EMT
          Review of pharmacology principles for the EMT which includes the role of opioid antagonists and epinephrine in the treatment of out-of-hospital patients. This course also includes the assessment of blood glucose levels.
