Philosophy - Associate of Arts Degree

The Associate of Arts in Philosophy at Crafton Hills College is designed to meet the needs of students transferring to a four-year university and intend to major in philosophy, religious studies or a related field of study. The degree is also designed for those interested in broadening their knowledge and understanding of the most influential philosophical thinkers and theories.

Lower division requirements for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution in this field may differ from associate degree requirements. A student receiving a degree in this field will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to recognize, analyze, and evaluate philosophical theories and arguments using logical reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to properly research philosophical ideas and information using credible sources to substantiate arguments and beliefs.
  • Demonstrate an ability to write carefully constructed arguments and ideas, paying attention to language, logic, and subtleties of reasoning.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of diverse beliefs, values, and perspectives.
