James Barnes is giving back. He so appreciated the instruction he received from his art teacher at Crafton Hills College, that he’s recognizing her at his new school, the University of California, Irvine (UCI). UCI asks current Dean's Honor Roll Freshmen and Transfer students to tell them which instructors and counselors from their high schools or community college were most influential in their academic development and their decision to come to UC Irvine.

James nominated Jessica McCambly by writing, "Jessica McCambly takes a pivotal role in both my art career and the careers of all other art students at Crafton Hills College. Not only does she work with individual students to broaden their horizons and introduce them to new opportunities, but she also works hard with the college staff to create a better experience for all students. Her encouragement is what made me the artist and student I am today. I know that without her, I and many other students would not have had the courage and confidence to follow our dreams. I want to thank her for all that she has done. She most certainly deserves it."

Jessica will be recognized at the UCI Educator Recognition Reception and Award Ceremony on May 28th. Jessica responded, "I am truly so honored because this is exactly the reason why I do what I do each day. I am so happy that James is thriving at UCI and would expect nothing less of him. He is extremely driven and gifted and I knew it the day he walked into my class fresh out of high school! His future is sparkly and bright!"

Jessica has been added to the UCI 2014 Educator Wall of Fame.
