It’s that time of year, again. The dreaded 2013 income tax deadline is rapidly approaching. If you are a moderate to low income family or individual with an annual household income of $51,000 or less and need assistance filing your tax return, you are in luck! The Crafton Hills College VITA program will provide FREE tax assistance this Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yucaipa Community Center located at 34900 Oak Glen Road.
Assistance will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. Clients are advised to arrive at the VITA site no later than 1 p.m. on Saturday. For married couples, both spouses need to be present during the preparation of their tax returns. Please be sure to bring the following items:
- valid photo I.D. and Social Security cards only (no photo copies are permitted), plus birth dates for taxpayer, spouse and dependents. Assistance cannot be provided unless this information is brought to the site.
- wage and earnings statements and financial statements such as 1099’s applicable to a personal tax return
- records of any payments to daycare and provider’s I.D. number
- last year’s income tax returns-optional, plus bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit
The Crafton Hills College Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), is an IRS-sponsored community program. VITA is a student run chapter under the guidance of accounting Professor Kevin Erdkamp. The newly established CHC VITA program hopes to assist more than 100 low to moderate income taxpayers this tax season.
