Section 508 FAQ

I want to use a video in my class, does it have to be captioned?

By law, all newly purchased videos or DVDs must be captioned prior to their initial use in the classroom. Instructors should proactively arrange for the captioning of videos with Technology Services or the DSPS Departments.

How do I get an older video captioned

Contact Technology Services or the DSPS office. The easiest solution is to investigate whether the video or DVD is now available with captioning and purchase it. If this is the case, contact the Library to see if funds are available for the purchase. IF the video is not captioned, it is strongly suggested that you arrange for the captioning a semester before you intend to use it in class.
