Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work and/or teach children in early childhood education or early learning programs serving young children, such as a preschool or child care setting.
A student receiving a certificate in this field will be able to:
- Exceed the Title 22 requirements for Teacher level employment in private sector programs
- Meet Title 5 requirements for teacher level employment in funded programs when adding 16 specified units of General Education
- Design, implement and evaluate environments that support positive developmental play and learning
- Design, implement and evaluate activities that support positive developmental plan and learning outcomes for young children
What opportunities might it lead to?
The Teacher Certificate is designed to qualify students for the California Child Development Permit: Teacher Level. Those with a certificate are eligible to teach in either private or public preschool programs and school-age programs. Further education and work experience can lead toward additional career opportunities.
