135 Mass Communication in Society

Mass Communication in Society is an introduction to the contemporary mass media, including television, radio, film, the print media, as well as the Internet and other forms of comptuer-mediated communication. Students will study the theories, history, effects and role of mass communication both in the United States and globally. Through the process of taking the course, students will become more critical consumers of the mass media. This course is a requirement for students interested in pursuing a degree in journalism, mass communication, broadcasting, advertising or public relations. This course fulfills a social science general education requirement in both the CSU GE and IGETC plans. This course is also offered as JOUR 135. Prerequisite: None.
